additions to the farm

a lot of stuff has been happening behind the scenes here. we have added three new chickens, and three new goats. we actually added six new goats, but three of them we coordinated to get back to the original owner. (to no fault of their own) OH, and we added a baby red ear slider.

the three hens we added are a buff brahma which will help start our meat bird program with our light brahma rooster. we did add a light brahma hen but she unfortunately passed due to unknown reasons. the other two are andalusians. we also added a leghorn rooster! he is very small compared to our other guys.

moving on to the goats, we added a few more nigerian dwarf does and one buckling. piper, smore’s and temporarily named spice. his name might change but i am not for certain. piper and smore’s are related, piper is smore’s aunt and spice is smore’s little baby.

we added three nigerian dwarf mixes as well. these are named, buttercup, huckleberry and peanut. sweet as can be, but giants compared to our current herd. these goats were head budded our herd and we ultimately wanted what was best for all the animals. the original owner reached out and we agreed that back home with her would be better. we came to the agreement that it wasn’t the best situation for our animals nor hers. (this is why the open door policy for me is so important) the open door policy allows anyone to get their animals back if they do want them back, and it allows owners to communicate and determine what may be best for every animal. had the owner and i not been in contact, we could have ended up with a hurt baby goat, chicken or adult goat. buttercup, peanut and huckleberry could have continually been stressed out and we don’t want that for any animal. while dropping off the sweet babies, we gained a baby red ear slider to raise up with our current red ear slider. all in all, every animal is happy and that makes all of us happy. the animals safety and health should always be the number one priority. i will miss those cuties, but i know it’s not goodbye. their owner is so incredible and i’m happy they get to stay with her and we get to stay in contact. (even if its not just animal talk!) scroll to the very end to see poor goats fainting, HAHA!

also, in case you missed it, we added a few glo fish to our farm. (indoors of course) two pink tetras. i think i want to add a few glo fish sharks to that set up one day.

overall, the goat herd is officially closed. (for now, it will bite me in the ass if i don’t add that part) we are still potentially looking to sell shay and jett as a package deal. then pops as well. i am just extremely undecided. pops will for sure be sold for $150. he is a mini silky fainting goat mixed with a pygmy nigerian dwarf. although, if you are in the market for a male pekin, i have a friend who is looking for a safe, pet only home for him! his name is snow and he’s a sweetie pie.

overall, i am so happy with all the changes we have been doing here! i can’t wait til all of us get to be on the same property again.
