make movie night easy!

any movie fans?

we’re major movie fans. when alex and i first got together, he was stationed in california because, well he’s a marine. i was still here and we would facetime often. at least once a week, we would go to netflix and choose a movie together then start it at the exact time so we could watch it together states apart. this was our version of movie night.

now, thankfully, we are in the same state and it’s something we determined to make a tradition. that means every sunday (when our life isn’t insanely packed), we have a chill day and then make a pizza and watch a movie. this helps us wind down and refresh for the new week. it’s actually one of my absolute favorite things to do. i look forward to this every SINGLE week.

sometimes we order in, sometimes it’s a pizza from heb, but our favorite is when i make them from scratch. everything tastes better from scratch i swear. in this blog, i’m gonna share our pizza dough recipe and walk you through how to stock up to make your own frozen pizzas so you never have to worry about it. (except once, when you have to prep them!)

DOUGH RECIPE:

prepare your dough

(our pizza dough is SIMPLE. it lets you customize it to your liking while also adding extra nutritional value.)

2 1/2 to 3 cups of unbleached flour

1 packet of yeast (2 1/4 tsp)

1 cup of warm water

1/4 cup of cane sugar (can omit this or use 1/8 cup of honey)

2 tsp turmeric

2 tsp ginger

1 1/2 tsp of baking powder (optional: i love a good fluffy, thick crust)

optional additions: oregano, italian seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, you can go wild here.

**if the dough seems to wet, add a little more flour. if the dough seems to dry, add a little bit of water. you want it to be workable but not so unworkable you can’t unstick your hands from the dough. you will naturally have some dough on your hands.**

DIRECTIONS:

add literally everything but the flour and baking powder.

let the yeast mixture sit for at least ten mintues.

add in your flour. mix until combined. knead for about five minutes until a ball forms.

let that ball of dough rest (sit with a towel over it) for 30 minutes.

preheat oven to 375.

once the dough has rest, take it out and lightly coat with flour so it doesn’t stick while rolling it to your desired shape. (i’ve done rectangles, circles, hearts, ovals, all of them)

BUILD YOUR PIZZAHHHH! add your sauce, cheese and toppings.

pop that creation in the oven for 25-30 minutes. (depending on your oven this can vary, so start with 25 and check it.)

STEP ONE:

make your dough according to how many pizzas you wanna prep. (example: if you wanna make six pizzas, take the recipe and multiply it by six)

let your dough rest.

once it’s done resting, roll it out to your desired shape.

STEP TWO:

once your dough is rolled out, set that baby in the freezer for at least two hours.

STEP THREE:

pull your prepped pizza doughs out of the freezer and build them. add your sauce, cheese and toppings.

i recommend doing this part fast, so the dough doesn’t start to thaw too quickly.

pop those back in the freezer and allow to freeze for another three hours.

STEP FOUR:

pull your beautiful creations out of the freezer and wrap with plastic cling wrap or butcher paper or whatever you like. you can add a cardboard base underneath to help act as a stabilizer or just wrap them. i just wrapped them.

STEP FIVE:

EATING THEM.

when you are ready to devour one of those bad boys, preheat the oven to 375.

leave the pizza in the freezer until the oven is preheated.

once preheated, throw that baby in the oven for 30-35 minutes. (again, ovens vary so start at 30 and check in.

STEP SIX:

sit back and relax with your favorite movie, friends, family or absolute solitude

(because, let’s be honest, a break from humanity is needed sometimes).

if you successfully completed all these steps, then you have the game plan to prepare pizzas all on one day. that way you’re set up for however long you like.

i personally love to quadruple the recipe. this allows me to make FOUR full pizzas to have for every week of the month. sometimes i will make two extra batches and make smaller batches of smaller, personal size pizzas for either kiddos or when you want a pizza but someone else doesn’t.
